A Timber Frame Workshop

We had a busy week in July with a crew of four on the farm cutting out a timber frame for a cordwood sauna going up at Bret’s place an hour or so northeast of here.

Here’s a sketch of the envisioned building that Bret drew for us.

Fall into Winter

Transition settles onto the farm these days as two new apprentices arrive and make their home in the apprentice yurt behind the shop. The trees are naked, the land is monochrome, the olive hillside covered in the snow that fell last night. Projects move indoors, the shop getting reorganized for winter work, plans for a new timberframe being drawn at the kitchen table through the snowy afternoon, the chest freezer re-organized to fit the last of the beef and pork.

Kale unburied from the snow drifts, eating fresh lettuce and spinach, more spinach seeded in the greenhouse, and fresh compost brought in to seed more herbs for the winter.
